Forget B2B or B2C, Its actually You2Me - Viewpoint - careers advice blog Viewpoint careers advice blog

Forget B2B or B2C, Its actually You2Me - Viewpoint - careers advice blog Technology is really the enabler, but trust still has to be built and earned between people Just to be clear, my job is focused very much on using all things digital. We use technology to attract and engage with the best talent in the marketplace today. We use it to make sure that we offer people the right content when it is most useful to them, and show them great opportunities that are relevant to their skills base. So in no way am I about to suggest that digital transformation is not a work stream that any forward thinking company should be engaged in. What I am saying though is that technology is really the enabler, but trust still has to be built and earned between people. People still matter most When youve decided to invest in a new washing machine, a car or a tablet, you do your research online. You check out social media and ask your network what they think. You look at peer reviews to see what kind of experiences others have had. You make the decision about what to buy and from where after a fair amount of research. It still comes down to how an individual made you feel But it can still go wrong! Have you ever walked away from a purchase because you just didnt like the way things were being done? The way you were spoken to? It still comes down to how an individual made you feel and whether you believed in what they had to offer, or to say. Fostering trust Managing your career is a pretty important task so its critical to have a partner working with you that you can trust. Of course, the brand, messaging, marketing and technology all lead you to an organisation, but it is still an individual with whom you strike a rapport, who you are comfortable to talk to and who can offer realistic, expert guidance when you need it. And not hassle you when you dont. All the smart technology can never replace the relationships that people create, build and nurture A recent call from a candidate I placed in the early 90s made me realise just how important this is. He was calling me about his son, asking how could he help to guide and advance his career most effectively. What should he look for, who to approach? Wed kept in touch over the years at various points along our respective career journeys, but this call made me realise the depth of trust we had built   for him to ask me to help with something as precious as advising on his sons career must have meant Id done something right all those years ago! It’s from this experience that Ive learned that when it comes down to it, all the smart technology, analytics, platforms and data can never replace the relationships that people create, build and nurture. //
